How to Use Lightkey with APlay Pro
Learn tips to control your lights with APlay Pro.
In APlay Pro you can use "Actions" to send MIDI signals to Lightkey or other lighting programs to control your lighting setup. This article will walk you through the steps necessary.

Find your Lightkey MIDI network name

In Lightkey go to Window => External Control
- Or if you have your lighting cues setup in ProPresenter you can go to your Macros section and right click any macro and select "Edit Action" then select "Edit Action" again to see the exact details you need to mirror for APlay Pro.
- Consider the Command, Channel, and Note.

- Now you can go into APlay Pro to create an Emitter.
- Go to the Functions Tab
- Select the Actions section
- Create a New Action
- Set the Name of the action to a recognizable name i.g. "Blue Lights"
- Select Choose Action
- Select Emit Data near the bottom
- Select "Emitter" and click "Create"
- Name your emitter "Lightkey"
- Select Type as MIDI
- For Output select your Lightkey MIDI network
- Select your type based on the details you found from ProPresenter or Lightkey
- Select the back arrow to create your MIDI action
- Select the drop down arrow to set your values
- Arrow up to choose your Note i.g. C#(-2) would be 1 while D#(-2) would be 3
- Make the Velocity 10 (this ensures the signal is strong enough for lightkey to read it)
- Choose the Channel for your MIDI signal
- Restart both programs by completing these steps in order:
- Close APlay Pro
- Close Lightkey
- Open Lightkey
- Open APlay Pro
- Test your MIDI action
- From the bottom menu in Lightkey, make sure your lights are set to "off" or different configuration than your new APlay Pro Action
- Go to your Functions tab in APlay Pro
- Go to your Actions
- Click your new MIDI Action
- Your lights should respond
- Now you can drag that action onto any slides you like to trigger the lighting configuration you want.
